V-PET - Veterinary Platelet Enhancement Therapy

  Back

V-PET® stands for Veterinary Platelet Enhancement Therapy. V-PET® is a platelet therapy modality used in the treatment of osteoarthritis and other poorly vascularised/damaged tissues (e.g. tendons, ligaments and cartilage).

slide9 V-PET® uses patented filtration techology developed by Pall Corporation to produce concentrated platelet samples from a patients own blood for direct injection into damaged tissues. V-PET Kits make the process quick, simple and cost effective in veterinary practice for both companion animal and equine patients.

VBS Direct is proud to be the V-PET distributor in the UK & Ireland. Since 2013 we have helped hundreds of practices improve their quality of care. Thousands of pets experience improved mobility and quality of life thanks to this excellent modality. Give VBS a call today.

Advantages of V-PET

  1. Proven scientifically to have significant effect on OA and rehabilitation (JAVMA Nov. 2013)
  2. Able to manage osteoarthritic lameness for at least one year from single injection into joint
  3. Can be used as part of rehabilitation package post fracture-joint surgery
  4. 30 minutes for whole procedure
  5. Easy to perform in the operating theatre
  6. Fraction of the cost of stem cell therapy, affordable even for non-insured clients

V-PET's patented filtration system gravitationally separates out the patient’s autologous platelets from its own blood and provides a rapid, sterile, concentrated platelet sample for injection into the damaged tissues. The selective use of platelet concentrate supports in a natural way the body’s regeneration and promotes long-term pain relief and mobility, though the release of the platelets’ natural anti-inflammatories, growth factors, cell differentiators and stem cell attractants.

Platelets contain various growth factors that accelerate wound healing and promote tissue regeneration:

  • Proliferation of various cell types and differentiation (Stem cells, osteoblasts, chondroblasts, epidermal cells, etc.)
  • Increase production while inhibiting of the degradation of collagen fibres and proteoglycans
  • Increase angiogenesis
  • Reduction of inflammation by changing the balance of inflammatory molecules towards anti-inflammatory cytokines (including IL-4, IL-10, IL-1ra)

The selective use of platelet concentrate, which is obtained from the patient’s blood, supports in a natural way the body’s regeneration and promotes long-term pain relief and mobility, through release of PDGF, TGF-ß, IGF, EGF, FGF, PDEGF, PDAF into the recipient tissue.
